Well just back today from 2 weeks in Northern Spain and I have to say that I was not disappointed.

The people were so friendly. Nobody spoke English and they aren't used to English people at all (probably why they are so friendly towards us!).

Everything was way cheaper than the resorts further south (6 Euros for 4 large bottles of Mahou beer and 2 Euros for about half a pint of Spanish Whiskey!).

I can't believe that within about 50 miles of the port you're in the mountains with great empty roads and almost no police or cameras.

Below are a few Thunderbird/mountain related photos and one of the many video clips I took of great roads.

Ian, video looks good, and no potholes to be seen! Sounds and looks like you had a good time.

Great stuff. Would have done that last year but did the Thunder tour instead. Still planning for future. Did you get the ferry to Santander.? Did you plan hotels or were there plenty of places to just drop in ? What were the temps like and any rain ?
What route did you take ?

Great clip and pictures Ian!

In Northern Spain/Southern France this summer to check it out but your report is enough to stick it on the list.

Must catch up sometime for the details.

Went down Portsmouth to Bilbao and back Santander to Portsmouth Mat.

Weather was mixed but more dry than wet. Only had wet weather gear on once and just ignored the rain and road to the plan. Temps varied greatly from about 14 to almost 30 but the weather seems to be unpredictable everywhere atm.

Stayed in Sames (just south of Cangas de Onis) for the whole 2 weeks. Dumped the gear there and just had a ride out every day.

I would recommend the accommodation - Link Very friendly village, very cheap bar (even had Wi-Fi in the middle of nowhere!!). We were sat on the patio one day and a dozen Spanish Imperial Eagles started circling the valley right in front of us - there also wild wolves in the mountains).

Various routes but some must see places include Potes and Cain.

Look forward to that, it'll be nice to return the favour after all the tips you gave me for Bavaria last year mate!

Cheers for that. I had this area flagged up. Nice place you stayed at, although I would prefer to stay in a few locations for a more widespread tour.
Will probs be on the cards for 2015, US of A planned for next year.

Thanks for that .

Hiya Ian. Glad you had a great run out.
Was thinking about Northern Spain either next year or one after.
Chrissie was tempted but needed to see photos of views before she could make up her mind. She loves mountains.
I think after I show her your photos and the vid, that will clinch it.

Plenty more photos and videos of mountains I can bore her with Sean! I've also upgraded the video on the link above to HD now (clicked the wrong button when uploading to YouTube last time).
